What is microsuction?
Microsuction is considered the safest method of ear wax removal. It involves using a small, gentle vacuum that quicky and easily removes ear wax from your ear canal. Unlike ear irrigation that involves using a jet of water to flush out the ear wax, microsuction allows us to offer a safer and more comfortable solution and is especially useful for patients who have an ear perforation or are prone to ear infections.
Once the procedure is over, our trained and experienced nurses and doctors use a microscope to check the health of your ears.
Does microsuction hurt?
Microsuction shouldn’t cause any pain or discomfort. No water is involved and no pain control medications are required. The procedure can be a little noisy but is is very well tolerated by patients
What are the advantages over traditional ear irrigation?
– no procedure is 100% risk free but studies have shown that microsuction is the safest method of wax removal resulting in the lowest risk of complications
– microsuction is a more comfortable process
– If you have a history of eardrum rupture microsuction is the recommended technique
– No liquids are involved with microscution and the procedure can often be performed without eardrops
What is the cost?
The cost is €60 for private patients
We offer a price reduction of €40 for medical card/doctor visit card patients. Please bring your medical card or doctor visit card with you on the day.
Who will perform the procedure?
A trained nurse or doctor experienced in ear health will perform the procedure. The procedure will be accompanied by a thorough examination of the ear canal and your eardrum. If there are any concerning findings we are in a position to prescribe drops and medications if required.
